Warnham group outing

I had a fantastic day out guiding the 'Grey Plovers' at Warnham recently.

The morning rain had cleared as we left Hove and stayed dry throughout our stay. From the centre here we checked out the mill pond, finding a Little Grebe and five Great Crested Grebes, whilst further round we saw some Gadwall and Teal.

We took some leisurely strolls to the woodland screen either side of our lunch break and the group's patience was rewarded with a stunning male Bullfinch that popped down to the feeders.

A smart Nuthatch was a crowd-pleaser, as was a lone Great Spotted Woodpecker. A large group of Long-tailed Tits arrived at the fat-ball feeder, feeding in a frenzy!

A mixture of finches were observed including Goldfinch and Chaffinch. A few Red Admiral and Speckled Wood butterflies were still on the wing.

A pleasant outing was complete with a good bit of coffee and cake before driving the group back to home to Hove.
