Kent birding tours launched!

Wildstarts is delighted to announce the launch of our private birding tours in Kent, one of the most exciting counties in England for birdwatching.

Often called the 'Garden of England', Kent sits at the south-eastern corner of Britain, where the country meets continental Europe across the Channel. That geography makes it a magnet for birds. Migration funnels through the county each spring and autumn, vast winter flocks fill its estuaries and marshes, and a rich selection of breeding species occupies its woods, farmland and wetlands.

Best of all, some of the finest birding in the country lies within easy reach of London, making Kent the perfect destination for a day trip or short wildlife escape.

A county made for birding

Kent offers an extraordinary variety of habitats within a relatively small area. On a single day’s tour it is possible to move between estuaries, coastal marshes, farmland, woodland and chalk downland — each supporting a different suite of birds.

The county’s coastline and wetlands are particularly important. Vast estuaries such as the outer Thames hold internationally significant numbers of shorebirds in winter, while places like Dungeness provide classic seawatching and migrant hotspots.

Across the county, birders encounter everything from farmland specialists and woodland songbirds to wintering raptors and wildfowl.

To date, over 430 species have been recorded in Kent, and close to 300 are logged most years — a remarkable figure for a single English county.

Private birding tours, designed around you

Our Kent birding tours are fully private and tailored to your interests. Whether you are visiting the county or already live locally, we design each trip around what you want to see and experience.

You might want to:

  • target particular species

  • explore Kent’s best birding sites

  • build a big day list

  • improve your bird identification or bird-sound skills

  • simply enjoy a relaxed day watching wildlife in beautiful landscapes

Our guides plan the itinerary with you in advance, maximising your chances of the encounters you are hoping for.

Perhaps you have always wanted to see Garganey, track down breeding terns on the coast, or search woodland for species such as Hawfinch or Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. Whatever your interests, we build the day around them.

Birding adventures for everyone

Our tours are popular with couples, families and groups of friends who want to spend time outdoors and enjoy wildlife together.

Children under 16 can join free of charge (vehicle space allowing), and we are happy to plan tours that accommodate members of your group with mobility considerations.

Longer tours can also include stops at some of our favourite Kentish pubs or restaurants, making the day as much about the experience as the bird list.

A friendly, expert team

Wildstarts’ Kent tours are led by Chris and Jay, two guides who know the county’s birdlife and landscapes in depth. Their aim is simple: to ensure you have an enjoyable day in the field and the best possible chance of seeing memorable birds.
