Situated in the south-east corner of Britain, Kent boasts estuaries, clifftops and nationally important marshes. A mighty 434 species of bird have been recorded in Sussex to date, with nearly 300 logged every year.

Wildstarts plans customised short, day and dawn-dusk birdwatching tours across Kent. Let our guides take you to the best sites for the some of the richest birding experiences in England.

Your own birding adventure

We will plan your birding tour according to what you want to get out of the experience, whether you're visiting Kent or you live in the county.

Let us know if you have particular target species in mind, or there are habitats you're keen to include on the tour. We will design an itinerary tailored to you.

Our guides are known for devoting their efforts to providing the best chances of getting the avian encounters you're after.

Perhaps you've always wanted to see a Garganey, or would like to see some breeding terns after familiarising yourself with songbirds — that's what we'll base your tour around!

We're happy to be out from dawn till dusk but we can cater for day trips of any duration.

You're welcome to bring your own lunch but we are very happy to incorporate stops at some of our favourite Kentish pubs and restaurants for lunch or an evening meal for longer tours.

During your Kent birding tour, we can focus on finding you new birds, building a good day list, identification, bird sounds, or just take it easy for a laid-back birdwatching experience.

Transport within Kent is provided but we can travel in convoy if you prefer, or even come up with a public transport itinerary if you'd like to do your birding green for the day.

Our team thrives on meeting new people who love nature and helping you see some amazing birds as part of an experience with a difference! Let us know what you want to get out of your Kent birding tour.

Explore varied habitats

Kent is home to a wide variety of resident, migrant and wintering birds.

This is thanks to the wide array of habitats in Kent, such as huge estuaries, bird-rich farmland, chalk downland and reed-fringed wetlands.

There are also opportunities for productive seawatching, with seabirds a key feature of sites such as Dungeness.

Home to special birds

The position and geography and Kent means the county is a wonderful place to find many interesting bird species, including breeding and wintering visitors, migrating birds on passage and year-round residents.

Kent's woodland is home to birds such as European Turtle Dove, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Spotted Flycatcher, Marsh Tit and Hawfinch.

Winter birds of prey include Hen Harrier and Merlin, while all five of Britain's common owl species are possible finds. Wetlands and fields host wildfowl such as Bewick's Swan, Common Goldeneye and Greater Scaup at this time of year.

The rolling downs are home to farmland birds like Grey Partridge, Lapwing, Corn Bunting and Yellowhammer.

The Thames Estuary is an internationally important area for shorebirds, with thousands of Red Knot and European Golden Plover relying on the area, among a variety of other species.
