Another Gatwick Birding Big Day last week, this time with Russell from Australia. We called in to three varied sites, picking up some really special birds along the way.
Dartford Warblers showed well on the heath.
Yellowhammers were in fine voice on this stunning blue day.
...As were Woodlarks.
This Dunnock popped out to vie for attention!
As always, Stonechats chose prominent perches.
Great Spotted Woodpeckers were still drumming.
This tour even featured a rarity, with the Green-winged Teal from America among its Eurasian counterparts
This Sedge Warbler had plenty of insects to pick from.
A good song-post for a Reed Bunting.
Little Ringed Plovers were mostly distant, but this one came a little closer. Other waders included Ruff and Greenshank.
(Eurasian) Teal afforded good views as they dabbled in front of the hides at Pulborough.
Both of the partridge species were targets for Russell. Unfortunately, Grey didn't show but we did track down two Red-legged Partridges.
Goldfinches added a splash of colour towards the end..!
