Winter Immersion: Dungeness Delights
Superb birding on the shingle ...
About the experience
The shingle of Dungeness is a unique and enthralling birding arena, and it comes into its own in winter. During this tour, we will explore the world-famous Dungeness RSPB reserve, which is a series of pits, reedbeds, marshes and scrub, to find a range of raptors, wildfowl, grebes and songbirds. There is always the chance of a Eurasian Bittern, while ducks include Common Goldeneye and huge numbers of Common Pochard. The pits usually hold some more unusual visitors at this time of year too, perhaps a Great Northern Diver or Slavonian Grebe. It is possible to see flocks of Corn Buntings and gatherings of Great White and Western Cattle Egrets on the Denge Marsh side.
